The importance of making an environmental inventory
There are environmentally and health hazardous substances and materials in our buildings. Before you start demolishing and renovating, it is therefore important to make an inventory (inspection).
There must be a demolition plan and an environmental inventory must be made for it. An environmental inventory involves mapping which materials and components contain hazardous substances and where these are located in the property.
For the inventory to be complete, it is required that the inventor has a lot of knowledge and experience.
Hazardous substances include:
- Asbestos
- PCBs and chlorinated paraffins
- Refrigerants (freon, etc)
- PAH and creosote
- Arsenic
- Light metals
- Heavy metals (including lead, mercury and cadmium)
