Description
Creosote consists of many different substances. Pesticides with creosote protect wood from, for example, termites and rot. The substance is carcinogenic with toxic and persistent properties. It can cause skin problems in humans and is toxic to soil and aquatic organisms.
Wood in older buildings that are creosote impregnated can emit odors. An air analysis should be done and if it shows elavated substances from creosote, the ventilation should be improved, or if possible, the wood replaced.
