Material identification (PMI)
PMI (Positive Material Identification) is a fast and non-destructive testing method for identifying the quality of a material against associated material certificates.
X-ray fluoroscence spectrometry (XRF), is a simple method to quickly get a result whatever the material. The PMI can be used on basic materials and welding, and identifies alloys. Welding is a mixture of additives and basic materials.
The test is performed on metallic materials, with success to sort different material qualities when, for example, mixing. PMI is also used to ensure that the right material has been used in the manufacture of a product, where it is not relevant/possible to cut out test pieces for complete analysis of chemical composition, as well as during assembly control.
Our experienced and qualified staff have the opportunity to go out on site to perform testing.
It is not possible to use this method to analyze the chemical composition and verify a material against a certificiate from a material supplier, then Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES) is used instead.
Permit
Safe Control Materialteknik holds a permit to use, possess and transport smaller radiation sources, such as PMI equipment with a cadmium isotope, by Strålsäkerhetsmyndigheten (the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority).
